BIT is currently placed as the best college affiliated to VTU. The institute initially offered the Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Computer Science, Electronics,Telecommunication, Instrumentation Technology, Electrical, Civil and Mechanical, Information Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management. Bangalore Institute of Technology was the first institute to introduce a full-fledged Computer Science and Engineering course in Karnataka. It is recognized by the AICTE and has been accredited by NBA. At present BIT offers ten undergraduate, three post graduate and a PhD course(s) with a student body of more than 2500.
There are a number of centres carrying out inter-disciplinary research and many collaborative programmes exist between the college and other institutions such as the Institute of Science (IISc) and National Aerospace Laboratories (N.A.L.). The college is also a program centre for Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Teaching and research work is supported by facilities such as a central library with 50000 volumes of text books and reference books and an Industrial Consultancy and Research Center. CIVIL ENGINEERING is closely associated with all walks of life and the impact of civil engineers on society is tremendous. The department of Civil Engineering was established to train and develop Civil Engineering Professionals who will be sensitive and serve for the betterment of the society. The Civil Engineering department is one of the first departments established by the college during 1979. The department has an intake of 180 students. The department is doing its best with the support of competent faculty and well equipped laboratories to develop quality civil engineering professionals.

Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in 1979 to impart high quality mechanical skills to the blooming engineers. The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1979. It is one of the oldest and finest departments. The undergraduate course aims at providing the fecund brains with rudimentary knowledge. Instructions are imparted in the areas of energy conversion, refrigeration, design of mechanical components and systems, production engineering, management techniques, computer programming, numerical analysis and Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM). Master Of Technology (Machine Design):
Starting in the academic year 2003-04 the department is offering M Tech. degree in machine design, with a minimum intake of 18 students every year. The Students learn Computer Graphics, Tribology & bearing design, Theory of elasticity, FEA, Experimental stress analysis, fracture mechanics, advanced theory of vibrations, Design for manufacturing and advanced mechanism in machine.
The program is aimed at translating theoretical knowledge to practical applications and developing strong linkage with research institutions and industrial R & D units.

Master Of Technology (Manufacturing Science Engineering):
Started in the academic year 2012-13 the department is offering M Tech. degree in Manufacturing Science and Engineering, with a minimum intake of 24 students every year. This course is 04 semester course with major focus on advances and practical aspects of manufacturing engineering. The courses are so designed that the students do get an opportunity to be ready for industry jobs as well as to pursue higher studies in Institutes of higher learning in universities abroad. The subjects both core and electives are suitably designed to keep abreast with the latest know how in manufacturing industries nationally as well as globally.

The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering came into existence along with the establishment of the institution in the year 1979. It is now headed by Dr. Pramila M.E. ,Ph.D., supported by highly qualified, experienced and dedicated staff.
In this age of development in technology it is we the electrical & electronics engineers who hold the key to development with our horizon ranging from power generation to micro controllers. Founded in 1979, the department boasts of well equipped labs & a well qualified faculty. The department has endeavored in organizing regular field trips to various industries hence giving ample industrial exposure, thus integrating practical &theoretical knowledge.
To develop the overall personality of the students the Electrical Engineering Association (EEA) was formed. EEA holds various seminars ,technical talks & personality development programs to keep the students & staff updated with the latest developments. Several technical institutions like CPRI. PRDA etc, have conducted various lectures & workshops. To add to the credibility of the department various project papers have been acknowledged by the industry .The department has VTU recognized R&D centre and 4 faculty members from other institutions have registered for Ph.D at this centre. Also 4 faculty members of our department are pursuing Ph.D. in diversified areas of EEE . Thus the department have strong sense of responsibility to provide an excellent technological education to the undergraduates and has been successful in providing platform to carry out R&D work. The students acquire the requisite knowledge for a successful carrier and the academic strength of the faculty is reflected by the alumini, many of whom are in the top echelons of industry and academia both in India and abroad.

Electronics and Communication Engineering Department was established in the year 1979 with an intake of 40 students for Bachelor of Engineering (BE) programme and affiliated to Bangalore University. Subsequently the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Bangalore Institute of Technology was affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University during the year 1998. Currently the department is offering Bachelor of Engineering with an intake of 180 students in Under Graduate (UG) programme and Master of Technology (M.Tech) in VLSI Design and Embedded systems with an intake of 18 students as well as M.Tech in Digital Electronics and Communication with an intake of 24 students under Post Graduate (PG) programme.
The department has well qualified and experienced staff of 38 faculties which includes 4 Professors 11 Associate Professors and 23 Assistant Professors with an average experience of faculty is more than 15 years. There are about 6 Doctoral qualified faculty. The department has laboratory facilities to meet the curriculum of Visvesvaraya Technological University and beyond and is also supported by a well trained technical staff.
As of now department students have achieved 15 ranks under Visvesvaraya Technological University and 10 ranks under Bangalore University. The students of the department are well placed in various companies for jobs by the end of the course. In KARNATAKA STATE, BIT was the pioneer in establishing the COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING department, with affiliation to BANGALORE UNIVERSITY in the year 1982. The syllabus was framed by then H.O.D. Prof. M. Ramakrishna, ever since then the department has adopted and evolved with the fast pace of technology.
The Department offers Under-Graduation [UG], Post-Graduation [PG] and Research under VTU. The department was started in B.I.T. in 1986. Since then it has been catering to the needs of excellent managers in the production industry. The department has Dr. M.C. Jagath as Prof. & H.O.D. Industrial Engineering is concerned with the design, improvement and installation of integrated system of men, material and equipment. The department of Instrumentation Technology was started in the year 1981-82 with the intake of 40 and later it was increased to 60. As indicated by the continuous opinion from the alumnae and up to date necessities from the core industries, the department has been renamed as Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering and started as a new course PG in the academic year 2014-15 onwards with a sanctioned intake of 24.
