Established by ICARE Birbhum under the Chairmanship of Sri Somnath Chatterjee, Honourable Speaker of the Fourteenth Loksabha and the Vice-chairmanship of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Honourable Defence Minister, Government of India, BIET started functioning from 1999 under the chairmanship of legendary lndologist Professor Ramaranjan Mukherji, presently Member, Central Advisory Board of Education, Govt. of India, former Chancellor of Tirupati University and former Vice Chancellor of Burdwan & Rabindra Bharati Universities and former President of Association of Indian Universities.
Situated at the sprawling picturesque Techno-Complex of 30 acres at Suri, BIET emerged as the pioneer Engineering Institute in Birbhum. It is proud to receive aids from the Government of West Bengal , Birbhum Zilla Parishad, West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), and M.P.L.A.D. scheme for the development of the infrastructure and the campus.
